Contact and Correspondence

Updated

Letters for Tailor, Weaver, Jeweler, Dyer go to one address: contact@tailorweaverjewelerdyer.com.

What is welcome

Error reports. A wrong date or accession number, a construction detail that does not match the object, a chemical name or formula that is off, or a swatch that strays from the photograph it links to. The page address, the sentence or caption in question and the source that shows the problem make a report quick to check.

Images that can be used. An openly licensed museum photograph, or a public-domain fashion plate or cutting-book page, with the address of the page it comes from and its license.

Primary sources. A period text, catalogue or account that settles a question a page leaves open, with enough of a reference to find it.

Corrections that come from a letter are made in the open, at the foot of the page concerned and on the Corrections page.

What this address cannot take up

These requests fall outside what the site does:

  • appraising, valuing or authenticating jewelry or clothing, or saying where a stone or a garment came from;
  • advice on what to buy;
  • instructions for sewing, metalwork or dyeing;
  • questions about wearing corsets, or about health;
  • advice on handling or cleaning objects or materials that may be toxic.

How diagrams and images may be reused is set out in Credit Lines. How letters and addresses are handled is in Privacy, Explained.
